Josh & Emily’s Wedding in Swanage and Corfe Castle, Dorset

If there was ever a wedding to epitomise what our Short & Sweet wedding days are perfect for it’s Emily & Josh’s.

They got married on an autumn day in Swanage with a small number of family and friends and we tagged along for a couple of hours.

Popping in to see Josh in his holiday cottage on the way we started coverage during the wedding ceremony at Holy Spirit & St Edward’s church before making way to Mortons House Hotel in Corfe Castle for their drinks reception.

Emily and Josh wrapped up their wedding day by tea-time and spent their evening enjoying some peace and quiet in their pretty little holiday cottage in the shadow of Corfe Castle.

After their meal we walked down together before we went home to take some photos on the platform of the Swanage Railway station. Sadly, the steam train had been cancelled for the day but this may have been a blessing in disguise as it meant there were no crowds and we had the freedom to wander and soak up the fabulous atmosphere.

Ali & Helen’s Wedding Prep Shoot in Studland

We took an early evening adventure over on the Sandbanks Ferry to meet up with Helen and Ali who are getting married next month.

They’re having us along for the ride for one of our Short & Sweet days. We’ll be there from bridal preps at Hotel Du Vin in Poole before heading over to The Guildhall for their ceremony and reception at Shell Bay Restaurant and Bistro in Studland.

The evening shoot was lovely and we enjoyed some great light, wandering up and down the dunes. It was also great to see inside the restaurant for the first time – we’ve always wondered what it’s like there and the views are unbeatable.

Liz & Shane’s Wedding at Mortons House Hotel & Swanage Railway

Liz and Shane’s wedding took place at Morton’s House Hotel in Corfe Castle, Dorset. It was a small and intimate occasion with close family and friends (and their beautiful and well-behaved dog, Winnie).

We joined them for one of our Short & Sweet days starting with morning preps at the hotel and Corfe Castle National Trust tearooms right through to their arrival for tea and cake and the Birds Nest Buffet car at Swanage Train Station. It was such a wonderful, fun day.

In the middle of this celebration there was a fantastic train ride taking the wedding party by Swanage Railway Steam Train from Corfe to the reception venue. Shane had previously been a volunteer helping put this line back on the tourist map and Winnie had been on the train before and knew how to stamp her own ticket!

Along the way everyone enjoyed the view and a cheeky little tipple to toast the newlyweds.

Jenny and Duncan’s Civil Ceremony at Swanage Town Hall

Jenny and Duncan celebrated their marriage with a Humanist wedding on the cliff-top in Studland, overlooking the sea and an audience of guests and paddle boarders. Being utter spoil sports, the pernickety laws in this country don’t allow couples to get married anywhere that isn’t an approved, permanent and immovable structure.

Jenny and Duncan got around this by doing the legal bit with Registrars the day before, at Swanage Town Hall.

We were there to photograph the short ceremony in the company of Jenny and Duncan’s close family and friends.

We’ll be posting their big day at Studland Bay House soon…

Becky + Matt’s Wedding at Swanage Town Hall – Part One

Becky and Matt put together a blinding wedding last week in their home town of Swanage. It was a day packed full of character, fun and lots of lovely handmade details. Anyone who knows Becky will know what a skilled craftswoman she is – so this came as no surprise.

Things started in the morning at Becky and Matt’s new home, conveniently just a stone’s throw away from Swanage Town Hall. Here, she got ready with her four bridesmaids including Sara whose wedding we photographed exactly a year ago.

Becky and Matt caused quite a stir being driven to and from the Town Hall in the coolest bottle green Hillman Minx. And if a snazzy little retro car wasn’t enough to halt everyone on the streets of Swanage Town, their exit from the Registry Office certainly did. With the RNLI playing a big part in both Becky and Matt’s life, there was a guard of honour formed out of oars and a pair of giant knitting needles (a brilliant surprise from Matt as a nod to the Bride’s knitting prowess).

Here are some photos from their morning.

You can see more of their afternoon and evening reception in Part Two.… Read Full Post

Becky + Matt’s Wedding at The Old Malthouse, Swanage – Part Two

Following on from Part One:

After their ceremony at Swanage and Town Hall Becky and Matt’s Wedding Party made their way up to The Old Malthouse for a relaxed reception. They were lucky enough to be the first ever wedding to be hosted at the school and were given the opportunity to really make it their own.

There was a bit of a festival atmosphere in the afternoon with Reggae beats, a deliciously hot, caribbean buffet and great wodges of cake, kindly made and donated by the guests.

The weather wasn’t quite so kind, so unfortunately there wasn’t much chance for guests to lounge on the playing fields sipping jars full of mojitos. But everyone had a jolly good time eating, drinking, being merry and eating cake.

When the evening kicked off everyone moved over to the separate hall for more dance and drinks, soundtracked by The Baker Brothers. It felt like a very pretty prom or the Enchantment Under The Sea night… The band even played Johnny B. Goode!

Congratulations Becky and Matt xRead Full Post

Emma and Carl’s Back Garden Wedding in Swanage, Dorset

Taking place in Swanage, Emma got ready at the cute Millpond Cottage, literally a stone’s throw from where the ceremony took place at St Mary’s Church (you could stand in the back garden and watch all of the guests arriving).

Meanwhile, the boys got ready back at Carl’s parents’ house where the party was going to take place later that day.

After a lovely ceremony in the church everyone made their way up to the house where two marquees had been set up; one in the front garden and one in the back.

We loved Emma and Carl’s mode of transport – kind of a mix between a Tuk Tuk and a buggy. After the bride and groom had their ride around Swanage, and up to the house, a few guests were treated to a little tour in it. Their faces were a picture when they got back – it was obviously loads of fun. Needless to say, I’ve now added an Ape Calessino to my wish list.

After the meal we whisked off in our car down to the seafront for a few photo before making our way back for a bit of the evening party. Here, the guests (and the neighbours) danced the night away to the excellent band, VIDA and their new dancers – The Flowergirls.… Read Full Post

Emma and Carl’s Swanage Wedding Prep

At the start of this week we headed over to Swanage to have a catch up with Emma and Carl.

They’re getting married at St Mary’s Church in the centre of town, followed by a marquee reception at Carl’s family home nearby. Our first “backyard” wedding. How exciting!

When we dropped by the garden was looking brilliant. It’s going to be brilliant to see the tent up.

After checking out the house we had a wander around Swanage. It was the night of the Jubilee Concert and the lighting of the beacons, so town was a little rammed. But we managed to find a couple of quiet spots.

You can now see Emma and Carl’s Wedding Photos here.Read Full Post

Laura and Sean’s Wedding Part 2 – Ocean Bay Restaurant, Swanage

Continuing on from Part One of Laura and Sean’s Wedding.

We’d never worked at Ocean Bay Restaurant in Swanage before – what a gem it is for a wedding reception! It’s bright, it’s big, it’s pretty and it’s slap bang on the beach, with a sheltered porch, an amazing view and a sassy tropical island-style beach umbrella to boot.

After being dropped off by the Wedding Party Bus everyone spent some time soaking up the sun, having some drinks and collecting shells.

The restaurant let the lovely sunshine flood in throughout the day as guests enjoyed their wedding breakfast (kitted up with British seaside-themed table decorations and a Sandcastle cake!).

As well as brilliant speeches from Sean and his best man Laura also took some time to say a few words.

After the wedding breakfast we went for a little stroll along the beach for some photos, hunting down the most characterful beach huts along the way before it was time to party.

Laura and Sean’s friends played the tunes which meant there were no duff songs, just full-on party tunes. The dancefloor was energetic with handstands aplenty…

Thank you for letting us be a part of your day, Laura and Sean!… Read Full Post
